I’ve always had this girly urge to throw my ambition out of the window and abandon the 9-to-5 corporate fashion ladder and pathetic rat race to open a flower shop.
One that’s also a niche bookstore. And why not add a coffee corner while I’m at it—where I’d make you coffee with overused, century-old moka pots, the same ones that brewed after-lunch espresso for my 70 relatives on summer Sundays at Grandma’s.
It’s that dreamy vision of slowing down, fully embracing la vita lenta and surrounding myself with books—which I would actually have the time and energy to read—flowers (not Tesco’s), and caffeine that never fails to soothe me when I’m feeling overwhelmed.
Next weekend, I’m popping over to Paris for a quick three-day break from my currently very stressful life. Which, honestly, isn’t even that stressful in the grand scheme of things, but considering this is my very own publication, I am allowing myself to be this dramatic and rant as much as I please.
I’ve found a house, so I’m not homeless anymore—thank God for that. A much-needed city break indeed. When I’m this stressed and busy, there’s no room for boredom, and without boredom, my creativity dies. In moments like these, only two things bring me consistent peace, inspiration, and joy: books and carbs.
Luckily, in Paris, croque-monsieurs and croissants are a given, so the carb part is safely covered.
