I have been a huge true crime listener for many years.
I feel a bit of shame saying that. How can hearing about tragic events and gruesome details be enjoyable? I battled with it for a long time, thinking something in me was awfully wrong. I even spoke about it with my therapist to understand the reason behind such an interest.
Well, apparently, true crime is fascinating because it allows us to safely explore the darker sides of human nature, satisfy our curiosity about extreme behaviour, and ‘engage with moral dilemmas’, all while stimulating our emotions and survival instincts. It offers a blend of fear, empathy, and problem-solving that has a strong grip on our minds.
Still, she strongly advised taking breaks from it. Constant negative input can lead to negative output. So, basically, if I want a happy life and positive thoughts, I need to control what I put into my ears and brain. Duh.
